Japan close for fourty minutes, but Russia increased the difference in the final minutes
In the first minutes of the second half the team of Japan dreamed of a surprise. After a five goal lead of the Russian team the underdog from Asia reduced the deficit to just one goal. But Russia answered and increased the score in the final twenty minutes of the match to a clear 39-29 (18-15). Best scorers for Russia were Pavel Atman, Daniil Shishkarev and Timur Dibirov - all three scored six goals for the team of Dimitri Torgovanov. Goalkeeper Vadim Bogdanov was with ten saves a good support for his team. Hiroki Shida scored seven times for Japan, the team from Asia will face host France in the next match. Russia will play on the second matchday against Norway.
