SC DHfK Leipzig: German women`s national coach Biegler will be successor of Prokop

Christian Prokop will leave SC DHfK Leipzig at the end of the season, he was nominated as new German national coach. Now Leipzig published the name of the successor, it will be Michael Biegler - at the moment coach of the German women`s national team. Biegler, who won with Poland bronce at the World Cup 2015, will start his new job on 1st of January 2018 after the Women`s World Cup in Germany. Caretaker coach from summer to the end of the year will be Andre Haber, assistant coach in Leipzig since 2012.

Biegler signed a contract valid up to the end of the season in 2020. "The package convinced me, not only the first team also the youth section made big steps in the past years", said Michael Biegler. The coach worked for several clubs in German Bundesliga, also in Leipzig - in 2013 he saved the club in the final six weeks of the season in the fight against the relegation from the second division.

After this success the club started a new chapter, promoted to the first division and is on the moment on sixth place of the Bundesliga and reached the Final4 of the German cup. The coach in this years was Christian Prokop, but he will leave the club this summer - the German Handball Federation announced him as new coach of the German national team as successor of Dagur Sigurdsson and payed according to media informations 500,000 Euro transfer fee to DHfK.

"I am looking forward to be a part of this emotional project again", said Biegler. "My decision for Leipzig is connected to some persons, like Karsten Günther, Maik Gottas, Stefan Kretzschmar and Andre Haber, all four are representing the great work in this club." Stefan Kretzschmar, member of the board of the club, said: "Michael Biegler is a very good coach. I worked several times together with him and I am convinced, that he is the perfect choice as coach of SC DHfK Leipzig."

Leipzig also announced the prolongation of two important players. German national player Niclas Pieczkowski and Swiss pivot Alen Milosevic signed new contracts - both valid up to summer 2020. "We are playing a very constant season and I want to be part of the team making the next steps", said Milosevic after yesterday`s 27-25 victory in German Bundesliga against VfL Gummersbach.
